With the midterm elections set for November 3, Kalshi traders favor Democrats taking control of the U.S. Senate. The market’s forecast has reached 52 Democratic Senate seats as of Friday afternoon, up from 50 seats on June 24, signaling an improvement in Democrats’ expected performance over the past several months.
Kalshi’s separate Senate control market shows that Democrats have a 68% chance of winning the chamber, up from less than 43% on June 24, a gain of 25 percentage points. Meanwhile, traders put Republicans’ odds of winning the Senate at 32%.

Forecast: 52 Democratic Senate seats
Kalshi’s forecast points to Democrats holding 52 Senate seats after the midterm elections, putting the party in a stronger position than the 50-seat projection traders had on June 24.
The individual outcomes in Kalshi’s Senate seat-count market offer a closer look at traders’ expectations:
Above 52 seats: Approximately 38%
52 seats: Approximately 22%
50 seats: Approximately 13%
51 seats: Approximately 11%
49 seats: Approximately 6.3%
48 seats: Approximately 5.6%
Above 52 seats is the market’s leading individual outcome, suggesting that some traders see potential for Democrats to perform even better than the forecast. The outcome of exactly 52 seats also remains a major possibility.
The two-seat increase since June points to a more favorable outlook for Democrats, illustrating how traders see a meaningful chance Democrats finish with a larger Senate presence than they held before the election.
The difference between a forecast of 50 seats and 52 seats is especially important. A projected 52-seat Democratic majority would give the party more influence over leadership, committee assignments, and the legislative agenda. It would also strengthen Democrats’ position in debates over President Donald Trump’s agenda during the final two years of his term.
The balance of power in the Senate will depend on how many seats each party wins in the 2026 midterm elections. Kalshi traders give Democrats a 68% chance of controlling the chamber, making them the favorite over Republicans.
The seat-count market estimates how many seats Democrats will hold, while the control market focuses on which party will control the Senate. Both markets point to a favorable outlook for Democrats.
However, neither removes the uncertainty in individual races. Democrats aren’t guaranteed to win every closely contested Senate race, and Kalshi’s prices can shift as traders respond to new polling, campaign developments and other election news. The projected number of Democratic Senate seats could rise or fall as Election Day approaches.
Whether Democrats can win 52 seats—or exceed that mark—will be one of the central questions on Election Night. The Senate outcome is particularly important because even a relatively small shift in seats could determine control of the chamber.
Kalshi’s House market also shows Democrats as the clear favorites. Traders forecast that Democrats will pick up an estimated 236.7 House seats, up from nearly 230 seats on June 24, helping give the party a roughly 91.4% chance of winning control of the House. A majority in the House takes 218 seats.
For now, Kalshi’s forecast points to a potentially consequential Midterm election for Democrats: a likely House majority and a competitive path to Senate control.
