Let’s dive into the details for USA-Denmark.
This is an opinion and not financial advice. The author cannot trade on Kalshi.
Following a 5-1 beatdown of Latvia on Thursday, the United States is currently priced at 96¢ on Kalshi to defeat Denmark.
There’s no denying the U.S. looked supreme in the opening match. Things may have started slowly, but forward Brock Nelson of the Colorado Avalanche, Kalshi’s current Stanley Cup favorite, managed two sharp goals in the second period. The team netted two more before the final buzzer, and Latvia was never equipped to mount that type of comeback.
Denmark enters its meeting with the United States following a 3-1 loss to Germany in the opening tilt. The Danes have not defeated the U.S. in men’s hockey since the 2010 World Championships. Can this team, led by Carolina Hurricanes forward Nikolaj Ehlers, snap a six-game losing streak against the Stars & Stripes?
The current group from Denmark features six NHL players, but no defensemen. Given the United States’ offensive firepower (fueled by Nelson, Jack Eichel, the Tkachuk bros., and several others), the public is bearish on the unseasoned Danish defense.
The Danes were initially favored by traders in this matchup, reaching a high of 80%. That is obviously no longer the case, especially after the United States’ dominant performance on Thursday.
Gold medal nation
The U.S. is presently positioned second in Kalshi’s gold medal market, and is priced at 35¢. Still, Canada remains the outright favorite, with a 51% probability to win its record 10th gold medal in the event. The Canadiens had a dominant opening game of their own, blanking Czechia, 5-0, but have not won Olympic gold since 2014.
The takeaway
The United States and its hyper-talented cast of NHL players are seen as a heavy favorite for Saturday’s contest against Denmark. The team is hoping to continue building momentum, and is currently viewed as the second favorite to win the Olympic tournament. Kalshi gives the United States an 96% probability to make the podium in Milan.
