U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett has publicly supported James Talarico, who defeated her in the Texas Democratic primary, but Kalshi traders are split over whether she'll actively participate in his Senate campaign before Election Day.

Kalshi's market gives Crockett a 46% chance of participating in a qualifying campaign activity for Talarico, the Democratic candidate favored to win the Texas Senate race.

The market resolves to “Yes” if Crockett participates “in at least one campaign activity, such as a rally, fundraiser, campaign advertisement, canvassing event, or phone-banking effort” for Talarico by Nov. 3, according to Kalshi’s market rules.

Crockett’s support

Crockett says she supports Talarico, though she has focused her recent campaign appearances on down-ballot Democratic candidates rather than events organized for his Senate campaign.

Doubts about Crockett’s support for Talarico’s campaign surfaced early. “In August, when asked if she would campaign with Talarico, Crockett told CNN she would focus on ‘campaigning down ballot’ instead,” The Hill reported.

Even though Crockett told the Houston Chronicle, “I’ve endorsed him 100 times,” questions remain about her willingness to campaign directly for Talarico. On Monday, during a campaign event in Houston, she “doubled down on her down-ballot agenda,” adding that “the top of the ticket is going to benefit” from her appearances and campaigning, per the Houston Chronicle.

Last month, The Washington Post reported that Crockett’s leadership PAC released a list of campaign endorsements. Talarico’s name wasn’t on the list.

“Crockett’s fundraising venture, FIRE PAC, has been supporting down-ballot candidates for state legislative office and county judgeships in Texas this year and added 14 names Monday,” The Post wrote. “The group has also backed a handful of congressional and gubernatorial candidates in California and the U.S. Virgin Islands.”

Crockett says her decision to focus on other races does not diminish her support for Talarico.

“Talarico and other Texas Democrats have tried to tamp down talk of lingering tensions with Crockett,” The Post reported. “Crockett reiterated her support on social media on Tuesday [Sept. 29] and Talarico said in July that he was ‘honored to have her support and her endorsement.’”

Tensions on the Republican camp

Similar tensions have emerged on the conservative side of the Senate race.

Outgoing Sen. John Cornyn, who lost the GOP primary runoff to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, has declined to use his influence to raise money for his former opponent's campaign, according to an August report from The Texas Tribune. Cornyn called Paxton “a poor campaigner” who is “lazy and doesn’t raise money,” saying Paxton “is not offering a very compelling case for his election.”

The Hill also reported that President Donald Trump criticized Cornyn and GOP strategist Karl Rove on Truth Social for “doing everything possible to make it hard for Ken Paxton… to win the upcoming Midterm Election against a Radical Left Lunatic.”

Crockett’s public support for Talarico hasn’t settled the question facing Kalshi traders. The market’s outcome will depend on whether she participates in an activity that meets its specific campaign requirements by Nov. 3.

The takeaway:

Kalshi markets now predict:

  • Chance of Crockett campaigning for Talarico: 46%
