To trade the 2026 midterms on Kalshi, open the midterms hub, choose an election market and read its rules. Once your account is approved and funded, select Yes or No and review the price, quantity and fees before submitting an order. Markets cover House control, Senate control and individual races.
The general election is November 3, 2026. You can hold a position until the market settles or try to sell it beforehand. Here is how to get started.
Start with the outcome you want to trade
House control: Trade which party will control the House.
Senate control: Trade which party will control the Senate.
Congress balance of power: Trade a combination of House and Senate control.
Individual races: Find a specific race through the midterms hub.
Check the exact question and settlement rules before choosing a contract.
Set up and fund your account
Create an account and complete Kalshi's account and identity checks. Approval and trading restrictions apply. An approved account can use the funding methods shown in its deposit flow; cryptocurrency is not required.
For US users, bank deposits have a $10 minimum and no deposit fee. Transfers typically settle within five business days, although some funds may be credited sooner.
Card deposits also have a $10 minimum. Debit deposits may carry a 2% processing fee. Credit cards may also be processed, but fees can vary and the card issuer may add charges such as a cash advance fee. American Express is not supported. Check the available balance and the charge shown before transferring money.
What a Yes or No contract means
A Yes contract pays $1 if the named outcome happens under the market rules. A No contract pays $1 if it does not. The losing side pays $0 at settlement. For a contract asking whether Democrats win the Kansas Senate race, buying No means the Democratic Party must not win under the rules. It does not select a particular rival. Read the question and rules even if the display names a candidate.
Check the price and fees
Suppose a contract asks whether Democrats will control the Senate after the 2026 election. Buying 100 Yes contracts at 40 cents each costs $40 plus fees. If the contract settles Yes under its rules, the total payout is $100, giving you a $60 profit before fees. If it settles No, you lose the $40 purchase cost plus fees. These prices are hypothetical.
The page percentage is a reference. The available order price determines your cost. Review the quantity, average price, applicable fees and total together. Kalshi fees can vary by market and order type; a limit order is not automatically fee-free.
Place your order
Select the outcome and choose Yes or No. A quick order attempts to buy at available prices, and a larger order may fill across several prices. A limit order lets you set the maximum purchase price, but it may fill only partly or remain unfilled. Review the order, submit it, and check its fill status.
Hold the contract or sell early
You can try to sell a contract early while trading is available. An exit requires a matching buyer, and the sale price can be below what you paid. Holding until settlement makes the payout depend on the contract rules.
The House control and Senate control contracts may be determined early based on a consensus of media calls. Otherwise, House control is determined by the party of the Speaker of the House on February 1, 2027, and Senate control by the party of the Senate president pro tempore on that date. Check each contract for its full rules and settlement timing.
Common questions
What is the minimum bank or card deposit?
For an approved account using these funding methods, the documented minimum for bank deposits and card deposits is $10. This is a funding minimum, not an amount you must spend on a trade. The contracts you can afford depend on their prices, fees and the balance available to trade.
