The Los Angeles Rams open their preseason on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, with kickoff at 4:00 p.m. ET. Kalshi's market prices Kansas City at 55% and Los Angeles at 46%, as of this writing.
Los Angeles finished 12-5 last season, second in the NFC West, before losing the NFC Championship to Seattle. Kansas City finished 6-11, third in the AFC West and out of the playoffs, a season derailed when Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15.
Saturday's game carries no stakes for either team's usual stars. Head coach Sean McVay has never played his top players in the preseason, and Kansas City is holding Mahomes out entirely as he continues rehabbing his knee.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Kansas City Chiefs, Saturday, August 15, 2026
Kansas City's favorite status traces almost entirely to roster planning rather than talent gaps. Both teams are resting their franchise quarterbacks, but Los Angeles is also sitting Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, and newly acquired pass rusher Myles Garrett, while Kansas City's backup plan behind Mahomes still includes a veteran starter in Justin Fields. That gap in who's actually on the field, not the teams' 2025 records, is driving the market's number.
Los Angeles enters banged up at two key spots: Garrett has been managing knee swelling since a joint practice with Dallas last week, and Nacua is dealing with groin and core soreness that has kept him out of practice. Neither injury is considered serious, and neither player was ever expected to play Saturday regardless.
The headline personnel news belongs to Kansas City: head coach Andy Reid confirmed Mahomes will not play as he continues recovering from last season's ACL and LCL tear, with Fields, Garrett Nussmeier, and Chris Oladokun splitting the game at quarterback. It's the first preseason opener of Mahomes' career that he'll watch from the sideline.
On the other side, Los Angeles is getting its first live look at Garrett in a Rams uniform, acquired in a June trade with Cleveland that reshaped both teams' defensive fronts, even though he won't play Saturday. Stetson Bennett IV is set to start at quarterback for Los Angeles, with rookie Ty Simpson also seeing snaps.
