Early reactions to The End of Oak Street are in, and traders are optimistic that the sci-fi thriller will do well with critics when the review embargo lifts.

What’s it about?
David Robert Mitchell, the director behind the critically acclaimed 2014 horror hit It Follows, tells the story of a typical stretch of American suburbia that suddenly finds itself in a distant time for no explainable reason.
The film stars Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway as a mother and father living out their quiet days in the American suburbs with their two children. One morning, they wake up to discover that a large section of their neighborhood has been transported to the Cretaceous period, when giant killer dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
Suddenly, the family of four find itself fending off giant, terrible lizards in their own backyard as their unaware neighbors get gobbled up by the carnivorous creatures.
The good reviews
The studio has held some advance screenings of the film. Some of the early reactions on social media offer a promising time at the movies this weekend.
IndieWire chief film critic David Ehrlich had nothing but kind words for the film, calling it a rollicking good time at the movies.
“The End of Oak Street absolutely rocks,” Ehrlich wrote. “Hilarious, perfectly paced, Ambliny but mean as hell, Anne Hathaway [sic] blasts a T-Rex with a shotgun…It delivers more fun in any 5-minute stretch than the entire Jurassic franchise has in total since the 90s. Biggest surprise of the summer.”
Next Best Picture owner and editor-in-chief Matt Neglia praised the production for its slick look that blends real worlds with computer-generated ones in seamless ways.
“The fantastic production design completely sells the time period, while Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor deliver two strong, capable performances as parents desperately trying to keep their family together as the world around them falls apart,” Neglia wrote. “It has its fair share of silly moments, and I certainly question the moral ethics of the ending, but overall, this was a fun, nostalgic, and well-paced thrill ride that blows every one of the Jurassic World movies out of the water for its dinosaur action and grounded, relatable emotion.”
The not-so-good reviews
Some critics were not so kind to the sci-fi thriller.
Courtney Howard, a critic and journalist for Variety and The AV Club, said on X that she wasn’t as shocked by some of the film’s biggest reveals and felt the whole experience fell flat by the time the credits rolled.
“David Robert Mitchell’s End of Oak Street has very few surprises up its sleeve,” Howard wrote. “Logic doesn’t live here. The Amblin play for nostalgia curdles quickly. With exception of two moments, it’s completely derivative of Jurassic Park dinosaur-driven tension & spectacle.”
