U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's decision to drop vandalism charges against former Olympian David Hearn could lead to President Donald Trump ousting her from her post.

The vandalism case
The U.S. Attorney’s office filed a 20-page court filing detailing the reasons it decided not to pursue criminal charges against Hearn for allegedly vandalizing the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial.
The Associated Press reported that Pirro's office dropped all charges against Hearn on Friday. The U.S. Attorney's office declined to pursue the case due to a "flawed installation by the contractor" as well as "the rush to complete the project prior to events associated with the America 250 celebration in the weeks surrounding Independence Day 2026."
President Trump expressed his extreme displeasure over Pirro’s handling of the case against Hearn on his Truth Social account.
“I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, on Reflecting Pool,” Trump wrote. “I don’t know what she was thinking? To me, it was a pure case of VANDALISM, that included the grass, which had a big 86 47 emblazoned in giant letters on it, and other elements of the surrounding area. There may have been some contractor difficulty, but the major damage was caused by VANDALS!”
Pirro out as U.S. Attorney?
Trump had even harsher words from the Oval Office about Pirro’s decision to drop the case against Hearn.
Mediaite reported that President Trump criticized Pirro’s office for dropping the case and even harsher words for the judge overseeing it.
"Frankly, I think she choked," Trump said. "Because the judge was really vicious. Instead of going after the people that did it, the judge went after her and went after her department, and I guess she choked. I don't know what the hell happened."
Trump continued to criticize Pirro in the Oval Office. "I was disappointed with Jeanine Pirro," he said. "Really disappointed with Jeanine Pirro. She folded like an umbrella. And people get away with things, and it's a disgrace."
CNN reported that White House correspondent Alayna Treene said on Monday that President Trump is considering firing Pirro as U.S. Attorney of the District of Columbia.
Treene said Pirro and Trump had a conversation over the case and a senior administration official told her “that their conversation wasn’t pretty.”
She also said the President has been “fixated” on the damaged reflecting pool and remarked that her days in the U.S. Attorney’s office may be numbered.
“I’d remind you, we also heard the president shortly after this filing saying that he 100% disagreed with Pirro, that was something he said over the weekend,” Treene said. “So very strongly upset about what had happened with Pirro, with that court filing. And I’m told, so much so, that he’s considering removing her from her role.”
