Kalshi, the next-generation financial exchange, is expanding protections for its young adult traders. Every account for 18- to 20-year-olds will have a $2,500 monthly deposit limit, adding another step to Kalshi’s proactive intervention for losses.

Kalshi is also announcing new partnerships with parent and youth safety organizations, including Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely, to publish Parents’ Guides to Prediction Markets. The guides will give parents everything they need to know to ensure responsible trading habits and keep minors off of Kalshi.

Kalshi is a financial exchange regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and, like other financial exchanges, it doesn’t allow anyone under 18 to trade on its platform. Eighteen- to 20-year-old traders will now be automatically placed into special accounts with extra protections and responsible trading education built in. Accounts for 18- to 20-year-old traders have always included safeguards, and new partnerships and features announced today will help strengthen them.

“Like the stock exchange, Kalshi is available only to traders 18 and older,” said Luana Lopes Lara, COO and co-founder of Kalshi. “Still, we know that young adults are often new to markets and may need more education and safeguards, so we are expanding our protections for this group of users.”

“We’re happy to work with Kalshi to help prevent minors from accessing prediction markets and to educate parents and other adults about the risks,” said Larry Magid, CEO, ConnectSafely.” Those risks go beyond losing money and can include compulsive trading, excessive screen time and risky financial behavior. Our goal is not just to keep kids off these platforms, but to help them develop the judgment to make informed decisions about money and risk now and as they grow older.”

“Kids should not be on prediction markets, and we appreciate Kalshi supporting families in keeping it that way,” said Brock Murphy, Co-Founder & CEO, Parent ProTech. “Parents deserve clear, practical tools to keep their children off these platforms. This guide explains what prediction markets are in plain language and gives families simple steps to start the conversation and keep their kids safe.”

More on these new features, rolling out in the coming days:

  • Monthly deposit limit. Every account for 18- to 20-year-old traders will now be defaulted into a $2,500 monthly deposit limit.

  • Trade alerts. When a new trader with a balance over $1000 puts more than 25 percent of that balance in a single trade, Kalshi will show an alert encouraging them to diversify their trading.

These new features build on safeguards already in place for young adult traders. Kalshi watches for signs of risky trading and steps in early, with responses that escalate from sharing educational resources to trading blocks. After their first trade, 18-20 year olds are shown tools to set limits on their time and money spent on the platform, along with confidential mental health support through Birches Health. With Inner Circle, parents and loved ones can stay in the loop with real-time alerts on how much and how often their 18- to 20-year-olds trade.

Kalshi has always prohibited minors from trading and verifies that through Know Your Customer (KYC) identity verification, the same standard traditional brokerages use, and automatically rejects anyone under 18. Understanding that some minors may try to use a family member’s identity to get around age rules, Kalshi now features its ID Check tool prominently on its homepage, so adults can confirm no one else is using their identity.

Every Kalshi trader also has access to trading breaks, self-set limits and self-exclusion, along with account security that includes Face ID by default on supported devices, selfie verification for higher-risk accounts, and expanded two-factor authentication.
