Kalshi’s traders are strongly favoring Michigan to win its first national championship in men’s hoops since 1989. Let’s dive into the college basketball title market, which currently has a trading volume of nearly $230M (and counting).

Kalshi’s traders currently give Michigan a 74% chance to win it all. Across the way, Connecticut is priced at just 27¢ to pull off an upset.

Under Dusty May, Michigan men’s basketball has produced one of the most impressive turnarounds in recent history. Over the past two seasons in Ann Arbor, the team has compiled 62 regular-season wins. That is an exceptional improvement from Michigan’s 8-24 record in 2023-24 (the year before May arrived).

Meanwhile, UConn is back in the national title game for the third time in four seasons (winning it all in each of its previous two trips to this spot). Head coach Dan Hurley has established a deliberate culture of winning in Storrs. Despite being labeled as a substantial underdog for the championship, his group enters Monday with deep postseason experience.

Michigan concluded the 2025-26 regular season as a top-three squad on the AP poll. From there, they performed strongly in the Big Ten tourney before losing to Purdue in the conference title game. At this year’s big dance, Michigan has already vanquished Howard, Saint Louis, Alabama, Tennessee and Arizona by double digits.

Conversely, UConn finished the most recent regular campaign listed seventh by the AP. Like Michigan, Connecticut played well in the Big East tournament before dropping the conference title game to St. John’s. UConn has shown grit and tenacity since then, eliminating Furman, UCLA, Michigan State, Duke and Illinois from the tournament. Of that batch, Connecticut displayed an average MOV of 8.2 points. For reference, Michigan’s average MOV at the big dance is 21.6 points.

In Michigan’s semifinal win over Arizona, junior center Aday Mara led the Maize & Blue with 26 points and nine rebounds. Mara will keep UConn’s frontcourt busy, but can they also deal with Michigan stars Elliot Cadeau and Yaxel Lendeborg? Keep in mind, Lendeborg exited Saturday’s game with a lower-body injury, but stated he will be on the floor Monday “unless I can’t walk.”

Connecticut powered through the semifinal round by playing team basketball. Senior center Tarris Reed Jr. was especially impressive, registering 17 points and 11 boards versus Illinois. Freshman combo guard Braylon Mullins contributed 15 points of his own, and may present a difficult matchup for Michigan’s smaller backcourt.

The takeaway:

Kalshi markets now forecast:

Men’s college basketball national championship:

  • Michigan to defeat UConn: 74%

  • UConn to defeat Michigan: 27%
