World No. 22 and third-ranked American man Tommy Paul will square off with tournament top seed and live-ranked world No. 2 Alexander Zverev (Germany) in a Round of 16 match at the Cincinnati Open Masters 1000 level event on Wednesday.
The match will take place at the venue’s P&G Stadium Court with the first serve slated to take place no earlier than 1:00 pm ET.
Kalshi traders give Zverev the edge in this contest, pricing the German at 70% versus 30% for Paul at the time of writing.

The road to the fourth round
The 6-foot-6 German holds the backing of Kalshi traders having put together a strong 2026 campaign in which he’s already racked up 44 wins, including his first career Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in June.
Paul, who has 34 wins on the season, also claimed a title earlier this year, lifting the trophy on home soil at the clay court ATP 250 level event in Houston.
But neither top player has had smooth sailing since the transition to the North American hard courts.
In his first match back from losing the Wimbledon final, Zverev fell in three sets to Tallon Griekspoor at the Masters 1000 level event in Montreal earlier this month.
His time in Cincinnati hasn’t been routine either. In his opening match he dropped the opening set to Britain’s Cameron Norrie before fighting back to win the match in three sets. On Monday, Zverev bested France’s Terence Atmane in straight sets, but the Frenchman pushed him to tiebreakers in both sets.
Similarly, Paul has underperformed since hitting the American hard court swing. He dropped his opening match at the ATP 500 level event in Washington and then only won one match before falling to fellow American Learner Tien in Montreal.
He’s now stacked two wins in a row in Cincinnati, but has needed three sets to seal the deal in both instances, edging out the big serving Hubert Hurkacz and later defeating Adolfo Daniel Vallejo.
Neither player has a significant rest advantage, with both having accumulated nearly 5 hours of time on court during their singles matches.
Zverev has added an additional 90 minutes of court time on the doubles court, winning a first round matchup with partner Marcelo Melo on Tuesday.
Head-to-head favors Paul
Despite being an underdog in the matchup, Tommy Paul holds a 2-1 record head-to-head against Zverev lifetime. All three matchups, like their Wednesday affair, took place on hard courts, though with varied surface speeds.
The American edged the German player in straight sets in 2020 in Acapulco, and later narrowly beat him in a match tiebreak at Indian Wells in 2022.
Three years would pass before their next, and most recent meeting at the 2025 Australian Open which saw Zverev take down Paul in four sets, notching a trip to the major semifinal.
Title chances
The matchup will also play a critical role in shaping the futures markets for the Cincinnati Open.
As it stands, Kalshi traders currently make Zverev the second most likely to hoist the trophy, giving him a 26% chance of winning the tournament without Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner in the field.
That mark places him just 2% below the odds given to American Taylor Fritz, who currently trades as the tournament favorite at 28%.
On the other hand, Kalshi traders make Paul’s chances just 2% to hoist the title.
Future matchups
Whoever should find their way through the fourth round matchup will earn a quarterfinal matchup against the winner of Spain’s Rafael Jodar and Italy’s Flavio Cobolli.
Kalshi traders make Jodar a sizable favorite, pricing him at 72% odds at the time of writing. Cobolli, who is priced at 28% in his matchup against Jodar, faced Zverev during the final of Roland Garros earlier this year, falling in five sets to the German.
