Susie Wiles’ tenure

Wiles has long been considered one of Trump's most trusted advisers, but Politico's Playbook newsletter reported that the President has privately asked associates whether he should replace her as chief of staff.

“At moments of frustration and adversity, President Donald Trump has long made a habit of calling up friends to ask what they think of his advisers – and whether he should consider making changes,” Politico reported. “These days, he’s asking about Susie Wiles, the once-unassailable White House chief of staff.”

Politico cited four people with direct knowledge of the conversations. One Republican operative close to the White House told the news outlet, “She’s burned a lot of people.”

“We’re told Trump is getting plenty of encouragement from rivals to Wiles and people who’ve felt ‘burned’ by his loyal enforcer,” Politico wrote. “Some have been sharing unfavorable coverage of Wiles and her family with the president.”

The discussions come as Trump faces weak approval ratings and Republicans prepare for the November midterm elections. According to reports, potential replacements include White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, New York Yankees President Randy Levine, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The Hill reported that President Trump denied he's considering replacing Wiles in a statement to Politico.

“Politico doesn’t care about facts, integrity, or honest journalism – it’s why I kicked them out of the White House!” President Trump wrote. “Susie Wiles is my loyal and longest serving Chief of Staff – there is a reason for that. She has been with me since the beginning, is my trusted advisor, and has my COMPLETE confidence.”

The New Republic reported that speculation about Wiles' future comes amid broader turnover in Trump's second administration. The Brookings Institution's analysis shows that by last September, "more than half of Trump's original 'A Team' – approximately 56 percent – had departed."

"Four Cabinet positions have also turned over since Inauguration Day 2025, with former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, former Attorney General Pam Bondi, former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard all being replaced," TNR reported.
