Another Trump cabinet member has resigned. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer is out.
Even before her exit, Chavez-DeRemer’s departure odds were already elevated. Kalshi’s cabinet departure market had her priced at 82% just a few hours before she announced her resignation.
The Guardian reports that a spokesperson for the Trump administration claimed Chavez-DeRemer stepped down “to take a position in the private sector.”
Chavez-DeRemer is the third member of President Trump’s cabinet to resign, following former Attorney General Pam Bondi and former Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem.
Labor Department scandals
Chavez-DeRemer’s office and staff are currently under investigation by the Labor Department’s inspector general. She’s accused of having “an affair with a member of her security detail” and using “government resources for personal travel, while her aides allegedly sought to channel grants towards politically connected figures.”
The New York Times also reported prior to Chavez-DeRemer’s resignation she and her former deputy chief of staff Rebecca Wright face allegations of workplace misconduct. She allegedly texted employees to bring them “wine or champagne” during the middle of work days because “Lori wants to do a toast when this meeting is over.”
The New York Post also reported in January that an employee filed an initial complaint about Chavez-DeRemer and some of her aides drinking on the job. The complaint also said the former Labor Secretary kept “a stash of liquor in the office.”
Members of Chavez-DeRemer’s family also face allegations of misconduct. Chavez-DeRemer’s husband Dr. Shawn DeRemer stands accused of sending inappropriate text messages to young female staff members, telling them to “pay attention” to the men in the office.
Chavez-DeRemer’s father also allegedly texted a young female staff member, “Hearing u/r in town. Wishing you would let me know,” and asked her to “Please keep this private.”
Other cabinet members
Kalshi traders also have their sites set on other members of President Trump’s administration who might be facing resignation or termination from their position.
FBI Director Kash Patel is currently priced at 81% on the cabinet resignation market. The Atlantic published a report accusing him of “bouts of excessive drinking,” leading to rescheduled meetings “as a result of his alcohol-fueled nights,” claiming he was difficult to reach “because he was seemingly intoxicated.”
Patel has also been accused of misusing his private government jet for personal trips. Sen. Dick Durbin called his personal travel “irresponsible joyriding” back in February.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth sits at 49% on the resignation market. He faced allegations of insider trading earlier this month. More recently, he went viral in a video in which he mistook a famous speech from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction for a Bible verse. Conservative commentator Bill Kristol posted on X that he believes “Hegseth’s days are numbered.”
