Both clubs are managing injuries into the weekend. Willson Contreras was removed from Friday's game after being hit in the head by a pitch, and his Saturday status wasn't confirmed as of this writing. Curtis Mead has a nondisplaced left wrist fracture and is not expected back for weeks, per Fox Sports. Ohtani has continued playing through a knee issue as Los Angeles' designated hitter, and Blake Snell remains on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of an eventual return, also per Fox Sports.
Yamamoto has been the more consistent arm all season, ranking among the Dodgers' pitching leaders in wins and strikeouts, per True Blue LA. Tolle, a rookie, has struck out 103 batters against 27 walks across 17 starts and has won four straight outings entering Saturday, also per True Blue LA.
Los Angeles' offense has the edge on paper, hitting .261 as a team compared to Boston's .244, but the Dodgers have struggled against left-handed pitching this month, an inconvenient detail against a left-hander in Tolle. Boston, meanwhile, arrives having won its most successful stretch in franchise history and takes the field fresh off Friday's comeback, a reminder that the Red Sox have made a habit this season of playing their best against contenders.

Boston's real number right now isn't the World Series, it's simply getting there. Kalshi's market for Playoff Qualifiers has the Red Sox at 78% to make the playoffs, up 12 points in recent trading as Boston has strung together one of its better stretches of the season.
