What do the polls say?
A new New York Times/Siena College poll shows a close race between Abbott and Hinojosa.
The poll found Hinojosa at 48% and Abbott at 47%, a one-percentage-point difference.
Axios also spoke to several political experts about Hinojosa's chances of winning the election now that she's within the margin of error. Even though it appears Hinojosa's road to the governor's mansion runs uphill, some of them said she has a chance to win if voter turnout is high enough.
'It is probably at this stage easier to mobilize someone who is not that fired up about voting than it is to actually change someone's mind,' Southern Methodist University political scientist Matthew Wilson told Axios.
Abbott and Paxton
The New York Times reported that Abbott held a rally at a steakhouse in Wichita Falls that also featured an appearance by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The candidates, however, did not share the stage.
'During his speech, Mr. Paxton thanked Mr. Abbott for hosting him,' The New York Times reported. '"We've never had a stronger advocate," Mr. Paxton said of the governor. Mr. Abbott, who headlined the event, did not mention Mr. Paxton.'
The separate appearances come as Abbott faces a competitive reelection race and Paxton trails Democrat James Talarico in several public polls. Paxton’s primary win seems to be having an effect on Republican candidates across the state.
'Despite his campaign's efforts, Mr. Abbott now finds himself ahead of his Democratic opponent, Gina Hinojosa, by only a few points in most public polls,' The Times reported. 'Some Republican consultants put the blame in part on Mr. Paxton, who has, remarkably for Texas, been trailing [state Rep.] James Talarico, his Democratic opponent, in public polls for months.'
Hinojosa and Talarico
Hinojosa joined Talarico at a San Antonio rally as both campaigns made their final appeals to voters. KENS5 reported that both candidates appeared on stage together in San Antonio as part of 'a last-minute push for their campaign.'
'This fight is too important to take for granted,' Hinojosa said. 'This is a fight we cannot lose. We are in the fight of our lives. We are in the fight of our generation. It is the fight to decide who does Texas belong to.'
Texas Senate race
Talarico has extended his lead over Paxton in Kalshi's Texas Senate winner market.
The Texas Senate winner market shows Talarico leading at 74%, followed by Paxton at 26%.
