Voters in Minnesota will head to the polls on Tuesday for primary elections in the land of 10,000 lakes. Key primary races include both Democratic and Republican primaries for the upcoming governor election in November. Current Minnesota Governor and 2024 VP nominee Tim Walz ended his bid for re-election in January 2026.

Walz had come under fire for reports of widespread fraud throughout the state. Shortly thereafter, current Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar stepped into the race, immediately becoming the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination. Despite six other candidates on the ballot, Klobuchar has a 99% chance of securing the nomination.

The Republican race is much more competitive, with two different candidates each having held the lead within the last month.

Mike Lindell, the current CEO of MyPillow and longtime GOP supporter, is the Trump-endorsed candidate in the race. However, local GOP politicians across the state have reacted with dismay to his candidacy. Lindell touted his relationship with President Trump heavily throughout the campaign.

Lindell, who at one point had as high as an 82% chance of winning the nomination, currently holds a 31% chance of securing it.

Lisa Demuth, the current frontrunner, has leaned into her ability to work across the aisle over the course of the campaign. Demuth currently serves as Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

The Minnesota House of Representatives is evenly split between Republicans and the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party, which is affiliated nationally with the Democratic Party. Demuth has also led the race in fundraising. She currently has a 69% chance of becoming the GOP nominee on the ballot in November.

Regardless of which Republican candidate comes out on top in Tuesday's primary, they will have their work cut out for them over the next three months before November's general election. The Democratic Party currently has a 94% chance of winning the gubernatorial race.
