While incumbent Governor Greg Abbott maintains a commanding advantage in Kalshi’s market for the Texas governor race, Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa has experienced a significant rise in her chances of victory since the summer.
Traders currently give Abbott a 66% chance of winning a fourth term compared with Hinojosa's 34%, a substantial difference despite recent polling showing the candidates separated by just one to three points.

Hinojosa’s odds surge from single digits
Despite Abbott maintaining a considerable advantage on Kalshi throughout the election cycle, Hinojosa’s chances of victory have increased significantly. Hinojosa’s odds climbed from just 8% in mid-July to 40% by November 2, marking a remarkable shift in a state Republicans have dominated for decades.
However, the market has since moved back toward Abbott, with his chances climbing to 66% on Election Day as Hinojosa’s chances fall to 34%. Despite the Democratic challenger’s substantial gains since the summer, Abbott has continued to maintain the lead on Kalshi.
The movement is particularly notable given Abbott's longstanding dominance in Texas politics. The Republican governor has served since 2015 and is seeking a record fourth term, while Texas has not elected a Democratic governor since Ann Richards in 1990.
Final polling shows closely contested race
While Abbott continues to hold a sizable lead on Kalshi, traditional polling indicates a considerably tighter contest than earlier in the election cycle. A New York Times/Siena poll conducted October 27 through November 1 found Hinojosa receiving 48% support compared with Abbott’s 47%, a narrow one-point advantage.
Another survey conducted October 28 through November 1 by AtlasIntel showed Hinojosa leading 49% to 48%, while other recent polling has continued to show Abbott maintaining a slight advantage.
The results represent a significant shift from surveys conducted earlier in the summer, when Abbott regularly held leads of approximately six to seven percentage points. With the candidates separated by such narrow margins in several final surveys, voter turnout and the composition of the electorate remain important factors as Texans head to the polls.
Affordability, education and Senate race add to stakes
Another important development involves the candidates' contrasting positions on affordability, public education, and the growing controversy surrounding data center development across Texas.
According to the Houston Chronicle’s November 3 reporting, Hinojosa has focused much of her campaign on rising living costs, opposition to private school vouchers, and criticism of Abbott’s support for large technology companies.
Abbott, meanwhile, has emphasized his record on economic development, property tax relief, and expanded school choice. His campaign has also spent approximately $117 million on advertising, compared with roughly $25 million spent by Hinojosa.
Hinojosa has proposed $1,500 payments to Texas households and increased support for public schools, while Abbott has called for eliminating school district property taxes for homeowners through a constitutional amendment.
The importance of the election is also reflected in Kalshi’s Texas Governor–Senate combination market, where traders currently give Greg Abbott and Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico a 44% chance of both winning their respective races. Meanwhile, the market shows a 34% chance of Hinojosa and Talarico both winning, compared with a 28% chance of Abbott and Ken Paxton winning together.
With both the governorship and a closely watched Senate race on the ballot, the final turnout could play a significant role in determining the direction of Texas politics.
Takeaway:
While Gina Hinojosa has experienced a remarkable rise on Kalshi, climbing from just 8% in July to 34% on Election Day, Greg Abbott continues to maintain a substantial advantage in the Texas governor market.
Recent polling has shown a considerably tighter contest, with several final surveys indicating a nearly tied race. However, Abbott's sustained Kalshi lead, significant campaign spending advantage, and longstanding position in Texas politics remain important factors heading into the final vote.
