What do the polls say?
Two recent polls show the Ohio Governor's race is still close between Acton and Ramaswamy.
The latest Emerson College poll shows the candidates tied at 48% each.
The latest AtlasIntel poll shows Acton with 52% and Ramaswamy with 44%.
Final election rallies
Acton and Ramaswamy made their final pitches to Ohio voters at rallies ahead of Election Day.
WCMH reported that Acton held a rally in Columbus with former Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is running for an Ohio Senate seat. Acton emphasized resilience and hope in her remarks to supporters.
“Our stories are of resilience, of grit, of grace and, yes, of hope,” Acton said. “Hope. Hope is a very powerful thing.”
Ramaswamy attended rallies with Sen. Jon Husted in Cleveland and Cincinnati. Ramaswamy promised his supporters relief from high taxes and rising energy prices.
“We’re going to give you the biggest property tax relief package this state has ever seen in our history,” Ramaswamy said. “We’re going to slash your electric bills. We’re going to put more money in your pocket. We’re going to prosecute Medicaid waste, fraud, and abuse by the billions.”
Both candidates also criticized their opponents' fitness for office. Acton described Ramaswamy as selfish and someone who doesn’t understand what his constituents need.
“He’s not just out of touch; we know he is,” Acton said. “He’s not just out for himself, which we know he is. Mr. Ramaswamy is a danger to my state.”
Ramaswamy described Acton as reckless and dangerous.
“No one has caused more damage to the state of Ohio in the 21st century than Amy Acton,” Ramaswamy said. “She shut down your schools. She shut down your businesses.”
The Ohio governor's race drew national attention in October after Ramaswamy's campaign released a controversial social media ad featuring Acton's estranged mother.
Acton was removed from her mother’s home when she was 12 after her stepfather faced criminal charges for abusing her.
Axios reported that Ramaswamy confirmed his campaign produced the controversial ad, which received national, bipartisan criticism.
“Sources close to Ramaswamy’s campaign said the ad tested well with ‘persuadable’ voters, prompting the decision to launch a $4 million statewide campaign,” Axios reported.
