The Broken Lizard gang is back with a third Super Troopers, eight years after the crowdfunded sequel and 25 years after the 2001 original. But right meow, Kalshi traders expect Super Troopers 3 to open to poor reviews from critics this weekend, with the market forecasting a Tomatometer score of 32%.

What’s Super Troopers 3 about?
The third installment of Searchlight Pictures’ cop-comedy stars the original cast including Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. The new film also features Brian Cox, Marisa Coughlan, Nat Faxon, Chace Crawford, and Andrew Dismukes from Saturday Night Live.
The film centers on a more personal conflict within the Vermont State Troopers’ post as Thorny, played by Chandrasekhar, finds himself trying to break up a wedding between Farva, played by Heffernan, and his sister Sarita, played by Hannah Simone. The movie also features the troopers investigating a new drug ring that popped up on their stretch of highway.
Lemme said in the movie’s production notes that they got the idea to stage a wedding plot during the filming of Super Troopers 2.
“When we were making Super Troopers 2, there was an Indian wedding going on in the parking lot of our hotel,” Lemme says. “It was a bit of a makeshift thing. The groom was supposed to ride in on an elephant, but this particular groom arrived in a pickup truck. We started riffing on it, we thought, what if Farva marries his sister?”
Chandrasekhar, who also directed the film, says the wedding plot pits two of the series’ most beloved characters against each other in a new and interesting way.
“Their personalities are fixed elements,” Chandrasekhar says. “Farva is always a boorish, vaguely racist oaf, and Thorny is a macho, mustachioed swinger. When the dynamic is fixed like that, you can create fiction and drama. We eventually drifted to the wedding plot, and it began to have that Meet the Parents vibe.”
The first Super Troopers film hit theaters in 2001 and became a cult hit for the Broken Lizard team. The group released the second film in 2018 after a successful crowdfunding campaign convinced the studio to approve the project. The Broken Lizard group also released such cult comedies as Club Dread, Beerfest, The Slammin’ Salmon, and the 2023 Hulu release Quasi.
The group also holds a comedy tour for their fans with the release of each new movie, and Super Troopers 3 is no exception. Heffernan told Cleveland Scene it gives them the chance to interact with their fans.
“We have a great grassroots fanbase,” Heffernan said. “We crowdfunded our second film, and the fans contributed to a large portion of the budget. It was the only way to get it made. You spend a year working on the movie and six months in a dark room editing it, and finally you can show it to people and say hi to the fans.”
